Before we were out of bed, the kids had eaten breakfast and were outside bicycling in their pajamas. We were one bike short, so after we had breakfast, Dave and I headed into town in search of a yard sale with kids' bikes. The yard sales did not pan out, so we picked one up at Canadian Tire.
While we were out, the kids were busy discovering more wildlife in their grandparents’ back yard. They found a very large snapping turtle and a very slippery green frog.
In the afternoon, the kids witnessed the launching of their grandpa’s boat followed by their first voyage of the summer.
Once the boat was moored at the dock, the kids had a blast jumping from it into the river and then relaxed on the deck afterwards.
In the late afternoon, my uncle and cousin and her family, visiting from Nova Scotia, came for dinner. The kids were excited to meet some second cousins that they’d never met before. And it was nice for the adults to reminisce.
For dessert, we had a small celebration for Lukas’ birthday. He received the next installment in his Grandma Sweater Collection (designed by his Uncle David) – a beaver complete with beaver pond scenery, which he immediately put on and wore for the rest of the balmy summer evening.
After dark, everyone gathered around the bonfire to roast marshmallows while grandpa played harmonica.
