Camera Obscura Acheived

If you have been following along, you may remember that we picked a cloudy day to attempt a tower ascent in Seville to observe a Camera Obscura demonstration. You can’t imagine my excitement when we found out there was a tower here in Cadiz with the same intent. Today, we climbed to the top of this tower, the tallest (45m above sea level) in Cadiz, initially used as a look-out. Near the top we witnessed a panoramic, “bird’s eye view” tour of the entire Old City. The kids liked it when our “tour guide” made people on the street below walk on her piece of paper.

Before our “Soaring over Cadiz” tour, we strolled through some parks. There are 5 giant ficus trees in this part of town. We wandered around the base of two of them.

They are mammoth – something straight out of the Jurassic Period…

…maybe we wandered a little too far back in time…

After a morning and lunch spent in the Old City, we picked up some sand toys and headed to the beach. Yesterday when we were there, Lukas discovered a “treasure” while digging in the sand. It turns out it is an actual 128 year old coin worth between $20 and $75 (Dave spent the evening googling it). Hence the reason we picked up some sand toys…the kids need better tools to dig for treasure. Alas, no luck today, just a lot of fun in the sun.

We headed back into the Old City this evening, for a stroll along the city wall and a fabulous view of the sunset (9:45pm) over the Atlantic.
