That’s what everyone is chanting in the streets. Horns are honking, fireworks are booming, and people are singing…Spain just won the FIFA cup. It will not be a quiet night.
We set out tonight to see how Cádiz feels about their football team. We had an inkling from this morning when an older gentleman started chanting: “España! España! España!”, to Lukas because he was wearing his jersey in honour of the big game today.
As we rode the bus into the Old City we saw more and more people dressed in red and yellow, and a multitude of jerseys. (We also saw 3 people dressed in orange – but they were quickly escorted out of the country…just kidding…we don‘t know what became of them…) Although there were lots of supporters out and about, and clusters of fans crammed into shops and restaurants with a TV, we were hard pressed to find a gathering like we did in Madrid. We stopped at a few places and watched the game for a while,
but the boys were tired and we were worried we’d miss the last bus home once the game went into overtime. Not to worry though, we are apparently surrounded by supporters in our apartment building as is evidenced by the noise still going on around us.
Way to go Spain!!!
This morning we went back to the castle where we’d seen the sunset last night. Unfortunately, access to the castle is currently closed to the public. But the kids had fun climbing the rocks along the causeway.
We also had the opportunity to witness the tide come in. It rapidly filled all the tide pools and covered the rocks the kids had been climbing on.
We had lunch at our casa and then headed to the beach this afternoon. We also managed to hit high tide there too. The kids enjoyed crashing into the high breaking waves.
Good night to all…but maybe not much sleeping in España tonight!
