Quiet Day

We had a late start on our excursions today because we went out for breakfast and then sought out a plaza to access the internet. While Dave uploaded, the kids and I wandered the adjoining streets in search of ice cream. We were all successful.

By the time any serious exploring got under way, everything was closing for the afternoon. We were able to admire the amazing architecture, but weren’t able to go inside.

We did have an opportunity to go back to the Flamenco Dance Museum. It was interesting to learn about its multiple origins and the diversity in the forms of dance.

It was so hot we would seek out the rare open shops just to go inside to cool down in the AC. At one point we decided to leave Spain for the much cooler climate in England…

However, we decided we couldn’t miss the Spain vs Paraguay soccer game, so we came back, had a little siesta in our casa and headed out in search of football fans. Although all TVs inside the cafes and bars were tuned in to the game it was more difficult to find a place to have seemingly “hard core” fans, than it was in Madrid. Eventually we did; and settled in for our second serving of ice cream today (seems to be a theme with game days). Once again Spain triumphed and whoops and horns could be heard throughout the city.

Tomorrow we shall try to get an earlier start on the day so that we can explore some of the inside of these exquisite buildings before the heat engulfs the city.
